The Way Free Medical Clinic

GOAL | SPRING 2025

The Way Free Medical Clinic in Orange Park, Florida, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free medical services to 50,000 uninsured and low-income residents of Clay County.

Founded with the mission to deliver compassionate and high-quality healthcare, the clinic offers a range of medical services including primary care, preventive healthcare, and chronic disease management. Staffed by volunteer healthcare professionals and funded through donations and community support, The Way Free Medical Clinic plays a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of the community it serves.

Project Overview:

The Way Free Medical Clinic is committed to enhancing healthcare accessibility while embodying financial sustainability through innovative solutions. This solar energy project represents a significant step toward reducing their operational costs, enabling them to dedicate more resources to direct patient care.

The expected savings from this solar array are substantial, allowing for the reallocation of funds toward expanding and enhancing The Way Free Medical Clinic services. These expanded services include free primary and specialty medical care, ranging from obstetrics and prenatal care to diabetes, heart, and respiratory care.

The solar array is going to be installed at their new Headquarters facility, which along with their coordinated medical care program, will more than double the number of people they serve. The clinic plans to introduce dental care, coordinate care with local hospitals, improve obstretic care, and continue to develop its cancer care program there.

The planned 41,58 kW solar array will generate 63,440 kWh of electricity annually - preventing 97,706 CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

By adopting solar energy, The Way Free Medical Clinic will not only reduce its operational costs but also setting a benchmark for sustainability in healthcare, ensuring that they continue to provide essential services to their community efficiently and responsibly.

"Solar energy would provide an element of financial sustainability to the organization, as we have to raise 100% of the funds needed to operate. The solar project will be a component of an innovative array of elements at the new site, including a demonstration edible garden, and pandemic-ready facility features", says Don Fann, Executive Director at The Way Free Medical Clinic.
