The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Louisiana through music, education, and community programs. The foundation supports local artists, fosters music education, and provides opportunities that sustain the city’s vibrant traditions and artistic legacy.
Since its inception in 1970, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation has played a pivotal role in preserving and advancing the cultural fabric of New Orleans. Its educational programs, grants, and festivals—including the world-renowned New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival—serve as platforms for local talent while fostering a deeper appreciation of the city’s artistic roots.
Project Overview:
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation, the foundation is exploring the implementation of a solar energy system. This initiative will directly power the school, reducing electricity costs and reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to music education and sustainability.
The planned 44.8 kW solar array will generate 49,780 kWh of electricity annualy - avoiding 64,048 CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
By integrating solar energy, the school can allocate more resources to expanding its programs, providing more students with access to high-quality music instruction, and ensuring that New Orleans’ rich musical traditions continue to thrive for future generations. This project not only enhances environmental awareness among students and musicians but also sets a precedent for cultural institutions embracing clean energy solutions.
Through this project, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation continues to honor its legacy while embracing a sustainable future.
"All cost savings will be directly invested in community programs that are primarily free to the public and participating students. This will also allow the Jazz & Heritage Foundation to not be burdened with the anticipated increases of energy usage, and to also have more consistent and reliable power, which will have better results to bring programming back after major weather events.", says Jonathan Solari, Director of Development at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage
